424 Iranian Researchers Among the Highly-Cited Researchers in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts & Architecture
Considering the importance of research in different subject areas of humanities, Islamic World Science and Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC) in line with its mission which is to monitor and evaluate the science and technology of Iran and other Islamic countries identifies the highly-cited researchers in these subject-areas. Accordingly, in this report highly cited researchers have been introduced in a 10-year period (2012-2022).
This analysis begins with identifying a list of highly cited researchers in each field using software methods. In the next step, the disambiguation and unification of this list has done, which leads to the identification of many people with the same name or the same people with different names. Researchers in each field are sorted according to the number of citations they have received, and then highly cited researchers are considered as highly cited researchers in humanities, social sciences, and arts & architecture based on the citation. The criterion for selecting researchers in this list is the number of citations made to their scientific productions.
424 highly cited researchers in humanities, social sciences, art & architecture were identified by ISC and categorized in 16 subject areas of humanities, social sciences, arts & architecture.
In the previous report (presented in a 10-year period (2011-2021), the number of 333 researchers were introduced as the highly cited researchers in this field, and this year a 27% increase in the number of researchers has been seen.

It is worth mentioning that some researchers in several subject areas have obtained the necessary criteria, which have been introduced in the subject area in which they have received more citations. In terms of the share of researchers in each field from the list of highly cited researchers, those in the subject areas of business, management and accounting (about 15%) ranked 1st, and the subject areas of psychology (10.14%) and social sciences (8.96%) ranked 2nd and 3rd.

The following table shows the share of universities and research institutes in the number of highly cited researchers in humanities and social sciences, arts & architecture. As can be seen, Tehran University, Tarbiat Modares University, Allameh Tabataba'i University, and Isfahan University have the highest number of researchers.
