ISC-D8 Joint Virtual Workshop Meeting on ISC E-Services for D-8 Member States Journals as the eleventh and twelfth international workshops on how to index journals and strategies for enhancing journals were hosted by ISC on Dec. 31st and September 1st 2021.

This international meeting was attended by Dr. M. J. Dehghani, ISC President, Dr. Dato’ Ku Jafar Ku Shaari, D8 Secretary General, Dr. Rasha, the Second Deputy Secretary General, and D8 journals’ editors-in-chief (112 participants from 112 journals).

D-8, also known as Developing-8, is an organization for development cooperation among the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.

The establishment of D-8 was announced officially through the Istanbul Declaration of Summit of Heads of State/Government on June 15, 1997.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Dehghani, while expressing his happiness for the expansion of international activities carried out by ISC, thanked and appreciated the presence of D8 Secretary General in this meeting as well as the editors of member countries’ journals.

He then introduced the history of ISC establishment as well as its national and international services and activities and further said: “ISC and D8 scientific cooperation has been significantly strengthened since 2017. After the MoU signed between ISC and D8 in 2017 and Dr. Dato Ku Jafar Ku Shaari visit to Shiraz in 2018, several joint activities have been carried out to improve the scientific situation of D8 member countries and D8-ISC partnership and long-term relations.

Dr. Dato Ku Jafar Ku Shaari, D8 Secretary General at the opening of this meeting said: First of all, I would like to thank ISC for hosting the ISC-D8 Virtual Joint Workshop on ISC E-Services for D8 Journals.

He added then that science, technology and research have an important role in addressing the world's challenges today for economic development, including environmental issues, poverty reduction, health and social protection programs, and the efficient management of countries' natural resources. ISC has played a pivotal role in indexing all reputable Islamic publications in all fields and languages by creating a scientific network among Islamic countries.

He mentioned: “This organization works tirelessly to evaluate and monitor the scientific networks of Islamic countries with the aim of promoting them. Another major focus of ISC is to conduct workshops on research effectiveness in universities and research institutes. This virtual workshop is one of them, providing an effective place for leading scientists, researchers and other stakeholders from D8 countries to share views and ideas. Holding such workshops will help D8 scientists and researchers identify the strengths, weaknesses and gaps needed to address them.

The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states’ position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.

D-8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one, as the composition of its members reflects. Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) is a forum with no adverse impact on bilateral and multi-lateral commitments of the member countries, emanating from their membership to other international or regional organizations.

Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari from Malaysia is currently the Secretary General of the D-8 Organization with its Secretariat based in Istanbul-Turkey.
